No customer reviews on product pages

Shoppers can’t see what other buyers thought, so the product page has to earn their trust on its own.

Checked on: product pages · Zolvio’s check: “Missing customer reviews”

Why it costs you sales

A product page is where a shopper decides whether to buy, and reviews are often the only independent account of a product they can’t touch. Without them, a hesitant shopper may leave to look for opinions somewhere else.

Reviews also answer questions your description doesn’t, like how the fit runs or how the product holds up.

How Zolvio detects it

Zolvio reads the text a shopper can see on each product page it scans, measured in a real browser (hidden text, text only screen readers get, and scripts don’t count; image and icon labels do), and looks for review, rating, stars or testimonial, a row of star characters, or an average rating such as 4.8 (25) or 4.8/5. It also accepts the elements a reviews widget puts on the page: anything with “review” in its class or id, or the markup of Judge.me, Yotpo, Loox, Stamped, Okendo, Fera, Junip, Trustpilot and other reviews apps.

Some reviews apps draw their stars in the shopper’s browser and show nothing to an automated one, so a reviews app’s script loading on the page counts too (the apps are listed below), and so does the product’s rating in its structured data (aggregateRating). If none of these are there, the page is flagged.

Only English pages are judged (the page’s language tag, or Shopify’s language for the store when the theme sets none), since some of the words it looks for are English.

Members-only pages aren’t judged: a page without an add-to-cart form that shows a password or verification form in its content, such as a lock app’s (Easy Lockdown, Locksmith) or a VIP sign-in in the theme. A sign-in box in the header, the footer, a pop-up or a drawer doesn’t count, since it’s on every page. Neither is a product page used for a consultation or a quote: one without an add-to-cart form whose main content asks the shopper to request a quote, talk to a specialist or book a consultation. An ask your buyable product pages show too, such as a banner on every page, doesn’t count.

This finding is reported after AI review: on paid plans with AI turned on, the AI agent checks it against the audit’s evidence before it reaches your issue list. Audits without AI report only the 22 measured checks.

AI screenshot review also looks for this problem (“No customer reviews visible”) in desktop and mobile screenshots. When both find it, you get one issue.

How to fix it

  1. Install a reviews app from the Shopify App Store, such as Judge.me, Loox or Stamped. The app collects reviews and shows them on your product pages.
  2. Place the app’s review widget on your product template: most apps add an app block you position in Online Store → Themes → Customize, near the price or below the Add to cart button.
  3. Import reviews you already have from another platform, if the app supports it.
  4. Turn on the app’s review-request emails so recent customers are asked to leave one.

Reviews need a reviews app; Zolvio can’t add them for you. Its guided fix points you to a reviews app and where its widget goes in your theme.

In Zolvio: on paid plans with AI turned on, the guided fix writes these steps for your own store and theme: where to click in Shopify admin or the theme editor, or which file to open, the line to find and the code to add. Each file opens in Shopify’s code editor. Zolvio never edits your theme: you make the change, then Verify fix checks your published theme for code changes (or you mark it fixed), and later audits confirm the problem is gone.
