Beauty product page without an ingredient list
The store sells beauty and skincare, but this product’s page gives no ingredient list, which shoppers with allergies or sensitive skin look for before they buy.
Checked on: product pages · Zolvio’s check: “Beauty product page has no ingredient list”
Why it costs you sales
Shoppers with allergies, sensitive skin or ingredients they avoid check what’s in a cosmetic before they buy it. A few “key ingredients” tell them what’s highlighted, not what else is in it.
A shopper who can’t find the list has to ask, guess or buy elsewhere. A list written as text on the page can also be read by search engines, which a list only on a photo can’t.
How Zolvio detects it
Zolvio works out what your store sells from its public product list (/products.json, the first 250 products it lists), by each product’s type, or its title when the type doesn’t say. Your store counts as a beauty store when at least 3 of those products, and at least 25% of all of them, are beauty and skincare products such as serums, cleansers, moisturizers, sunscreens, makeup, shampoos or soaps; brushes, tools, fragrances and supplements aren’t counted.
A product is judged when the list shows it and it’s a beauty product itself: not a kit, set, bundle, sample or gift card, and not one raw material sold as itself, such as 100% bentonite clay or pure argan oil. Only English pages are judged (the page’s language tag, or Shopify’s language for the store when the theme sets none), and not a page whose product content couldn’t be read.
It looks for the list in the product’s own content as the page drew it in a real browser (tabs, accordions and pop-ups included; not the header, footer, menus, other products or reviews), in the product’s description in the product list, in a tab, button or link named for it (“Ingredients”, “Full ingredient list”, “INCI”; not “Key ingredients”), and in the names of the product’s images (one named for the ingredients or the label counts). A list is 8 or more standard ingredient (INCI) names, such as aqua, glycerin or phenoxyethanol, or three or more ingredients listed after the word “Ingredients”. The page is flagged when there’s none of these, and the finding lists the tabs and links it saw.
Members-only pages aren’t judged: a page without an add-to-cart form that shows a password or verification form in its content, such as a lock app’s (Easy Lockdown, Locksmith) or a VIP sign-in in the theme. A sign-in box in the header, the footer, a pop-up or a drawer doesn’t count, since it’s on every page. Neither is a product page used for a consultation or a quote: one without an add-to-cart form whose main content asks the shopper to request a quote, talk to a specialist or book a consultation. An ask your buyable product pages show too, such as a banner on every page, doesn’t count.
This finding is reported after AI review: on paid plans with AI turned on, the AI agent checks it against the audit’s evidence before it reaches your issue list. Audits without AI report only the 22 measured checks.
How to fix it
- Copy the product’s full ingredient list, the INCI list on its pack, into the product’s description in Shopify admin (Products → the product).
- Or add a collapsible row or tab named “Ingredients” to the product template in the theme editor, filled from a product metafield so each product shows its own list.
- Keep your “Key ingredients” highlights: the full list goes next to them, not instead of them.
In Zolvio: on paid plans with AI turned on, the guided fix writes these steps for your own store and theme: where to click in Shopify admin or the theme editor, or which file to open, the line to find and the code to add. Each file opens in Shopify’s code editor. Zolvio never edits your theme: you make the change, then Verify fix checks your published theme for code changes (or you mark it fixed), and later audits confirm the problem is gone.
