No add to cart button on the product page

The product page has no add to cart or buy button, so shoppers can’t buy from it.

Checked on: product pages · Zolvio’s check: “Add to cart button missing”

Why it costs you sales

The Add to cart button is the one action every product page exists for. A shopper who has decided to buy and finds no button has nothing to click, so the sale ends on the product page.

How Zolvio detects it

Zolvio reads the text a shopper can see in the product area, the section around the product’s own add-to-cart form: the main product section’s, else the first one outside the header, menus, search results, the cart drawer and other products’ cards, measured in a real browser (hidden text, text only screen readers get, and scripts don’t count; image and icon labels do), and looks for a buy button: add to cart, add to bag, add to basket, buy now, buy it now or pre-order, or a button worded around the product, such as “Add 2 to bag”. It also accepts a submit button in a form that adds to the cart, add-to-cart markup, or Shopify’s dynamic checkout buttons. A sold-out button, or one asking the shopper to pick a size first, still counts as a button. If there’s none, the page is flagged.

A gift card sold through a gift-card app isn’t judged: the product is a gift card (in your store’s product list, or by its type in Shopify’s product data) and the page has no add-to-cart form, since such apps draw the amounts, the price and the buy button in the shopper’s browser from their own servers, which the audit’s browser doesn’t load.

Only English pages are judged (the page’s language tag, or Shopify’s language for the store when the theme sets none), since some of the words it looks for are English.

Members-only pages aren’t judged: a page without an add-to-cart form that shows a password or verification form in its content, such as a lock app’s (Easy Lockdown, Locksmith) or a VIP sign-in in the theme. A sign-in box in the header, the footer, a pop-up or a drawer doesn’t count, since it’s on every page. Neither is a product page used for a consultation or a quote: one without an add-to-cart form whose main content asks the shopper to request a quote, talk to a specialist or book a consultation. An ask your buyable product pages show too, such as a banner on every page, doesn’t count.

A store that sells by quote isn’t judged on this: one whose product pages show “Add to quote”, “Request a quote” or “Get a quote”, and none shows “Add to cart”, “Add to bag”, “Add to basket” or “Buy now”.

This finding is reported after AI review: on paid plans with AI turned on, the AI agent checks it against the audit’s evidence before it reaches your issue list. Audits without AI report only the 22 measured checks.

AI screenshot review also looks for this problem (“Add to cart button hard to see”) in desktop and mobile screenshots. When both find it, you get one issue.

How to fix it

  1. In the theme editor, open the product template and make sure the buy buttons block is in the product information section.
  2. If an app or custom code builds your product form, check it still shows the button (Online Store → Themes → Edit code).
  3. Open a product page and add the product to the cart to confirm it works.

In Zolvio: on paid plans with AI turned on, the guided fix writes these steps for your own store and theme: where to click in Shopify admin or the theme editor, or which file to open, the line to find and the code to add. Each file opens in Shopify’s code editor. Zolvio never edits your theme: you make the change, then Verify fix checks your published theme for code changes (or you mark it fixed), and later audits confirm the problem is gone.
