No search on the store
Shoppers who know what they want can’t type it in, so they browse or leave.
Checked on: homepage · Zolvio’s check: “Missing search functionality”
Why it costs you sales
Shoppers who arrive knowing what they want usually reach for search first. Without it they have to guess which menu or collection holds the product, and some give up before finding it.
The more products you sell, the more search matters.
How Zolvio detects it
Zolvio checks the elements on your homepage for a way to search: a form that submits to /search, a search input, a field named q, a link to /search, a search landmark (role="search"), Shopify’s predictive-search element, a control labelled “search”, or the search icon, button or box of a custom theme (a field whose placeholder mentions search, or classes such as search-icon, search-toggle or js-search). A search icon that opens a drawer counts. If none of them are there, the homepage is flagged.
Only English pages are judged (the page’s language tag, or Shopify’s language for the store when the theme sets none), since some of the words it looks for are English.

Severity. Depends on how many products your store publishes: high with 50 or more, medium with fewer, or when the audit couldn’t read your product list.
This finding is reported after AI review: on paid plans with AI turned on, the AI agent checks it against the audit’s evidence before it reaches your issue list. Audits without AI report only the 22 measured checks.
AI screenshot review also looks for this problem (“Search hard to find”) in desktop and mobile screenshots. When both find it, you get one issue.
How to fix it
- In the theme editor, open the Header section and check its search settings; many themes let you show a search icon or bar there.
- Install Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app to tune results and synonyms.
- If your theme has no search, add a search form to the header that submits to /search with a field named q.
- Search for a few of your products from the homepage, on desktop and on a phone, to check the results.
In Zolvio: on paid plans with AI turned on, the guided fix writes these steps for your own store and theme: where to click in Shopify admin or the theme editor, or which file to open, the line to find and the code to add. Each file opens in Shopify’s code editor. Zolvio never edits your theme: you make the change, then Verify fix checks your published theme for code changes (or you mark it fixed), and later audits confirm the problem is gone.
