No checkout button in the cart
A shopper who has decided to buy has nowhere to click next, so the sale stops at the cart.
Checked on: the cart (with an item in it) · Zolvio’s check: “Cart missing clear checkout button”
Why it costs you sales
The cart has one job: move a shopper who has decided to buy on to checkout. Without a button or link that does that, the purchase stops there, however much the shopper wanted the product.
How Zolvio detects it
Zolvio puts one in-stock product in its own cart, through Shopify’s cart API in a private browser session that’s thrown away afterwards (checkout is never opened and nothing is bought), then loads your cart page. It looks for a button or link that goes to checkout: a submit button named checkout (Shopify’s cart convention), a link to /checkout, or a control labelled check out, place order, complete order, buy now, or proceed or continue to payment. If there’s none, the page is flagged.
Only English pages are judged (the page’s language tag, or Shopify’s language for the store when the theme sets none), since some of the words it looks for are English.
A store that sells by quote isn’t judged on this: one whose product pages show “Add to quote”, “Request a quote” or “Get a quote”, and none shows “Add to cart”, “Add to bag”, “Add to basket” or “Buy now”.
This finding is reported after AI review: on paid plans with AI turned on, the AI agent checks it against the audit’s evidence before it reaches your issue list. Audits without AI report only the 22 measured checks.
AI screenshot review also looks for this problem (“Weak checkout button in the cart”) in desktop and mobile screenshots. When both find it, you get one issue.
How to fix it
- In the theme editor, open the cart template and make sure the section with the subtotal and checkout button is shown.
- If you’ve edited cart code or installed a cart app recently, check it didn’t remove the button (Online Store → Themes → Edit code).
- Add a product to your cart, open the cart page and check the checkout button appears and opens checkout.
In Zolvio: on paid plans with AI turned on, the guided fix writes these steps for your own store and theme: where to click in Shopify admin or the theme editor, or which file to open, the line to find and the code to add. Each file opens in Shopify’s code editor. Zolvio never edits your theme: you make the change, then Verify fix checks your published theme for code changes (or you mark it fixed), and later audits confirm the problem is gone.
