No size guide for a product sold in sizes
The product comes in clothing, shoe or ring sizes, but its page offers no size chart or fit advice, so shoppers have to guess their size.
Checked on: product pages · Zolvio’s check: “No size guide for a product sold in sizes”
Why it costs you sales
A shopper choosing between sizes they can’t try on needs something to go by: a size chart, measurements, or a note that the product runs small. Without it, some guess, some leave, and some order two sizes and send one back.
Shoppers look for that help next to the size options, where they choose.
How Zolvio detects it
Zolvio reads the product’s options from your store’s public product list (/products.json, the first 250 products it lists) or, for the first 10 product pages the audit visits, from the product’s own data; a product it couldn’t read isn’t judged. It judges a product with an option such as Size, Shoe size, Waist, Inseam or Ring size offering at least 3 sizes like XS to XXL, 1X to 3X, US 7 or EU 38, or plain numbers when the option or the product says they’re fit sizes (a shoe size, a waist, a dress). Products that aren’t worn, such as coffee, candles, a mattress or a pet’s collar, aren’t judged.
It then looks for size help: in the text of the page’s main content, tabs and pop-ups included (size guide, size chart, sizing, fit guide, find your size, true to size, runs small, measurements, how to measure, the model’s size), in links and elements named for a size guide there, in the product’s description and any table of measurements in it, in its photos’ names, and in a size-chart app’s script or block anywhere on the page. The page is flagged when there’s none of these. The finding lists the product’s sizes and where it looked.
Only product pages with an add-to-cart form that are marked as English (<html lang="en">) are judged, since the words it looks for are English.
Members-only pages aren’t judged: a page without an add-to-cart form that shows a password or verification form in its content, such as a lock app’s (Easy Lockdown, Locksmith) or a VIP sign-in in the theme. A sign-in box in the header, the footer, a pop-up or a drawer doesn’t count, since it’s on every page. Neither is a product page used for a consultation or a quote: one without an add-to-cart form whose main content asks the shopper to request a quote, talk to a specialist or book a consultation. An ask your buyable product pages show too, such as a banner on every page, doesn’t count.
This finding is reported after AI review: on paid plans with AI turned on, the AI agent checks it against the audit’s evidence before it reaches your issue list. Audits without AI report only the 22 measured checks.
AI screenshot review also looks for this problem (“No size guide”) in desktop and mobile screenshots. When both find it, you get one issue.
How to fix it
- Create a size chart: a page in Online Store → Pages, or a chart made with a size-chart app from the Shopify App Store.
- In the theme editor, open the product template and add a link to it next to the size picker; many themes have a pop-up or collapsible tab block for this.
- Add a line about fit to the product, such as “runs small” or the model’s height and the size they wear.
- Open the product page on a phone and check the size guide is easy to find next to the sizes.
In Zolvio: on paid plans with AI turned on, the guided fix writes these steps for your own store and theme: where to click in Shopify admin or the theme editor, or which file to open, the line to find and the code to add. Each file opens in Shopify’s code editor. Zolvio never edits your theme: you make the change, then Verify fix checks your published theme for code changes (or you mark it fixed), and later audits confirm the problem is gone.
